What we collect
When you post a comment or reply, we collect your name, email address, IP address, and browser user agent. When you subscribe to email digests, we collect your email address. When you submit a letter to the editor, we collect your name, email address, and message content — along with your IP address and user agent for anti-spam purposes.
Email addresses are never displayed publicly. Your name appears alongside your comment if it is published.
Why we collect it
We collect name and email to attribute comments and to send reply notifications (if you opt in). IP addresses and user agents are collected for anti-spam and moderation purposes only — to detect bot traffic and enforce rate limits. We do not sell, share, or use this data for advertising.
Analytics
We use Vercel Analytics for aggregate, anonymized page-view statistics. No cookies are set. No cross-site tracking occurs. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any advertising trackers.
Retention
Data is retained indefinitely unless you request deletion. Published comments are part of the public record and may remain visible. If you want a comment removed, email us and Hans will consider the request.
Your rights
To request deletion of your personal data — including comments, email subscriptions, or letters — email news@malibu.fm. We will respond within a reasonable time. California residents have additional rights under the CCPA; contact us for details.
