Caltrans leaves PCH washouts marked only with cones
Two pavement washouts on eastbound Pacific Coast Highway remain unrepaired after last weekend's high surf and high tide.

Caltrans has yet to install safety devices — other than flimsy cones — at two washouts in the pavement next to eastbound PCH, at the Giant Sand Dune near Mugu Rock, and at a 30-foot drop next to the bike lane just east of Deer Creek Road.
The damage came from last weekend's high surf and high tide combination.
Small boulders have been dumped into both holes to attempt to buffer tidal action, but the state has yet to make any disclosure on repair plans.

Thanks for the information, Hans. Drove by there on Sunday...definitely sketchy. But it's a perfect place for Cal Trans to start putting erosional materials in the ocean - where it belongs. They should have dedicated areas for all PCH and canyon slide material to get dumped on the coast, and give future generations a chance to still have sand beaches in Malibu. 80 years of trucking it away has put us in this predicament.
