Malibu charities seek $651,000; city has $150,000 to give
A council subcommittee meets today to pare down requests from 33 nonprofits, from soccer leagues to fire safety groups to the Point Dume 4th of July parade.

Two city council members will start sorting through requests for city financial support from 33 charities in Malibu this afternoon.
The city has $150,000 set aside for charity support. The 33 nonprofits have asked for a combined total of $651,000 in support.
Nature camps. Soccer leagues. Fire safety groups. Paddleboards for state lifeguards. PTAs. Little League. Swim clubs. The butterfly league. Opioid awareness. The Point Dume 4th of July parade. Scouts. Native Americans.
A city council subcommittee made up of Mayor Bruce Silverstein and council member Doug Stewart will pare down the list today at 3 at Malibu City Hall.
The final decision will of course be up to the city council.
