Malibu to test emergency phone alerts every Thursday in September Play

Your phone is going to go off Thursday at 5 p.m. if you live in eastern Malibu.

The rest of us will get alerts as the tests move west, up the coast, every Thursday.

Malibu city officials will send test phone alerts to cellphones and landlines every Thursday this month. Most landline and cell phone numbers associated with Malibu addresses are automatically entered into the system, which is from a vendor called Everbridge.

Residents and businesses can also create a profile and add contact information at MalibuCity.org/DisasterNotifications.

People who are registered in the eastern part of the city, Zone MAL-C111, will get the warnings Thursday at 5 p.m. That area is from about the McDonald's restaurant east to Topanga Beach.

The Civic Center area — from McDonald's to Malibu Seafood — will get the phone call tests one week later, on Sept. 10. That is Zone MAL-C112.

The largest part of Malibu — including Latigo Beach, Paradise Cove, Point Dume and Malibu Park/Zuma Beach — will get the test Sept. 17. That is Zone MAL-C113.

And the area from Trancas Creek west will get the test Sept. 24. That is Zone MAL-C114.

A sized-down Safety Resource Fair will be held Sept. 26 at Malibu City Hall.
