MRCA to coordinate mountain trail closures during fire threats
Joe Edmiston's agency will handle unified closures of parks and public areas in the Santa Monica Mountains on red flag days.

Parks and other agencies are coordinating their actions to close trails and public areas in the Santa Monica Mountains during fire threats. They've given the coordinating duties to the MRCA — the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority.
Joe Edmiston is in charge. He says this is a decisive framework to allow him to coordinate decisions and communications during dangerous red flag events, and will give the public clear direction when wildfire conditions pose extraordinary risk.
Parks and trails above Malibu are closed Thursday by the MRCA, California State Parks, and the National Park Service. The city of Malibu is not part of that framework, but on its own is closing Trancas Canyon Park and Charmlee Park due to the wildfire risk from the Santa Anas.
