Pickles and Peas food truck sweeps Malibu Chili Cook-Off

L.A.-based truck run by a former Ritz-Carlton executive chef took top meat and vegetarian trophies at the 43rd annual event.

By Hans Laetz

The executive chef of a food truck called Pickles and Peas won the top two trophies from the judges at the 43rd annual Malibu Chili Cook-Off. The Los Angeles-based truck won both the meat chili and the vegetarian chili contests.

Its recipes were created by Omar Saad, the former director of restaurants for the Ritz-Carlton chain worldwide. He quit the corporate world a few years back to operate his own food truck, Pickles and Peas.

In the People's Choice popularity contest, the winner was the joint entry from the Malibu Local Brigade — don't call it the Fire Brigade — and the Malibu Brewing Company. They won the most faves.
