Monday's high tide set an all-time record along the California coast. Data from the U.S. government tide gauge at San Pedro showed the previous all-time record high tide in the Los Angeles area — 7 feet 11 inches — was blasted away.
The high tide Monday was 8 feet 2-1/4 inches.
No additional coastal flooding has been reported, and the waves were pretty small.
Up and down California, the high tide was about two feet above the normal high tides for this time of year.
At Zuma Beach, the waves at the top of the high tide line were pretty small, barely washing over the front sand dune.
Officials are warning that even higher tides can be expected, coincidentally during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Warm water expansion, the El Nino Kelvin wave, and the upcoming storm season mean high tides could hit nearly nine feet.
Normal high tide levels in Malibu are around six feet.
Wednesday's high tide is at 10:35 a.m., predicted to crest at 7 feet 10 inches.
