Stewart confirms run for second term; Riggins leaning in
The Malibu council candidate nomination period opens Monday and closes Aug. 7 for the two expiring seats.

Two city council members are nearing the end of their term, and the candidate nomination period starts Monday.
Incumbents Marianne Riggins and Doug Stewart are both expected to run for their second terms. Riggins told KBUU several weeks ago she is leaning that way. Stewart this morning told us he is definitely running.
Says Stewart, and we quote: "While much was accomplished during my first term, our city still has challenges that must be addressed and I feel I am the right person for the job."
He goes on: "We have to get our homes and businesses that were lost in the fires rebuilt and our displaced residents back in their homes." Stewart also says the city needs to bring school separation across the finish line.
No statement yet from Riggins, and there are no other announced candidates (as of this broadcast, at 9:30 am Friday).
The nominating period opens Monday and closes Aug. 7. But if one or more of the incumbents decides not to file, the period will be extended through Aug. 12.

After this story aired, a Malibu woman named Annestacia Komarovsk posted on Facebook that she intends to run for city council, and also labelled herself as "Nonpartisan President of The United States." Komarovsk ran as a non-partisan candidate for California governor in the June primary, and received 0.00 percent of the statewide vote. KBUU will add that to the Monday broadcast.
