Volunteers battle invasive weeds at Point Dume preserve
The Malibu Township Council says the L.A. Conservation Corps is joining the effort, with major restoration work targeted for next spring.

It's a battle on Point Dume.
Volunteers have been pulling weeds out of the native plants at the Point Dume nature preserve for years. They are making progress, but the invasive weeds — well, they keep invading.
The volunteer effort began when Malibu Township Council members discovered that State Parks was using Roundup inside the Point Dume Natural Preserve. This was despite Malibu's poison-free ordinance.
The Township Council reports that city council member Haylynn Conrad has brought the L.A. Conservation Corps into the effort. The California State Coastal Conservancy has invited the L.A. Conservation Corps to submit a full grant application, thus identifying the project as a funding priority.
The first major restoration field work is currently targeted for next spring.
The next volunteer weeding day is Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Point Dume Natural Preserve.
