Arizona is threatening to sue the federal government over Colorado River water cuts that it might face.

We remind you: Malibu gets about 7 percent of our drinking water from the Colorado. It's a long straw.

The federal government is trying to ration water out from the drying-up river. Lake Mead and Lake Powell are at record low levels, endangering water supplies from Malibu to Denver.

Arizona, Nevada and California have been ordered by the Trump administration to severely cut the amount of Colorado River water they take. But Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming have not been ordered to cut their diversions.

Arizona officials argue that's illegal under a 104-year-old agreement that the states agreed to in 1922.

Expect the Arizona lawsuit to go to the Supreme Court while the lakes shrivel and the river goes dry.
