Lots of fun things coming up today, tonight and tomorrow in Malibu.

Tonight at City Hall, it's the opening reception for the huge art show inside City Hall. It's the opening of "Carving Canvas," the Malibu Arts Commission's 2026 community art exhibition honoring Malibu's rich surf and skate culture.

Thirty local artists have work on display through City Hall, and the art will be celebrated with the opening reception tonight at 6 at City Hall. The artwork will stay on display through August 21st, so if you miss tonight's big party, you can see the art during regular City Hall business hours over the next six weeks.

On Saturday afternoon at the Malibu Library comes a poetry jubilation. The city's arts commission will host "Summer Jubilations." Hosted by Malibu Poet Laureate Charlotte Ward, Jubilations is a gathering themed to celebrate joy in a time of overwhelming possibilities, to give voice to the true nature of vitality modeled on the natural world, and to attend to the power of love and joy.

Jubilations features selected poets, an open mic, light refreshments, and conversation. No RSVP is required. Learn more at MalibuCity.org/Poetry.

And then at sunset Saturday night, an open-air movie at Malibu Bluffs Park. Pack a blanket or low-back chair to enjoy CineMalibu Movies in the Park. The family comedy "Kicking & Screaming" is slated to play.

Before the movie, there will be treats from Rolling Hot Dogs y Mas, games with Super Soccer Stars, and crafts with the L.A. County Library. That will be Saturday night at the big lawn at Malibu Bluffs Park.
