Becerra wins governor's race in landslide; Sherman holds seat
Democrat Xavier Becerra takes 64 percent statewide and 72 percent in L.A. County; Brad Sherman defeats Malibu Republican Larry Thompson.

In the state and federal races, the number of Malibu voters picking Xavier Becerra cannot be isolated from the millions of votes cast across L.A. County. But Xavier Becerra is absolutely throttling Steve Hilton.
Statewide, it's a 64 percent landslide for the Democratic gubernatorial candidate. In Los Angeles County, the raw vote count for Becerra is 72 percent — an unheard of total. Even Orange County went 54 percent for the Democrat.
Steve Hilton took a terrible pasting Tuesday night, to be the frontrunner Republican in the 2030 election race.
Malibu's Republican candidate for Congress went down in the ocean of blue votes. Larry Thompson was trying for the third time to unseat Brad Sherman. He got 31 percent of the vote — less than half of the 69 percent ocean of votes for Sherman.
Likewise, Republican Ted Nordblum got blasted by Deborah Klein Lopez in the race to become the state assembly member from the Santa Monica Mountains region. She got a 58 percent landslide over Nordblum's 42 percent.
In Ventura County, Democrat Jacqui Irwin has 57 percent of the vote.
Other important votes:
Proposition 2 — more money can be put into a state rainy day fund — approved.
Proposition 39, the proposed voter ID requirement, shot down in a landslide.
Proposition 40, the proposed one-time billionaires tax, lost in a landslide.
Proposition 45, cutting back the California CEQA environmental laws, 54 percent no.
One proposition backed by Republicans made it through — Proposition 42, an anti-tax measure. It is being approved with a 54 percent vote.
One other race of note: the annoying battle between two Republicans who were put into the same congressional district by the governor's redistricting plan, Proposition 50. You've probably seen the annoying attack ads flooding the L.A. TV market with Young Kim and Ken Calvert, two Republicans just going after each other with meat axes. Calvert is beating Kim by 9 points.
