Body found off Kanan Road; sheriff releases no information

LAPD was the complaining party on the Friday discovery just south of the Malibu city limits, but homicide detectives downtown won't say what happened.

By Hans Laetz

Malibu residents have been told nothing — zero — about the discovery of a dead body off a trail just off Kanan Road Friday morning.

The LA County Sheriff's Office has a policy of refusing to release even a smidgen of information after a homicide, which has left residents totally in the dark.

Looking at the crumbs of information we've been able to gather from the scene, we know this: Los Angeles Police were the complaining party. They're the ones who knew there was a dead body there.

Why City of Los Angeles police, 15 miels outside the city? We don't know.

There was a large number of LAPD cars parked along Kanan Road near the discovery of the body, which was on the side of the highway just south of the Malibu city limits.

That's very unusual. We've never seen LA Police investigating a crime in Malibu.

They turned it over to Malibu-Lost Hills Sheriff's deputies, who in turn called in homicide detectives from downtown.

The homicide detectives from downtown refused to give us any information.

Is there a threat to people in Malibu right now? Probably not, but they won't tell us.
