Food trucks cleaned up act after Malibu crackdown
Follow-up inspections found operators complying with parking, sanitation and noise rules; staff suggest only one tweak to driveway distance.

The food trucks that park on Malibu streets appear to have cleaned up their act.
The city brought in sanitation and traffic enforcement from the county in a big crackdown on food trucks last month. Every single one of them was found to be operating in violation of health codes or safety rules in one form or another.
But those violations were mostly minor. Follow-up investigations have found that the truck operators are following the rules for proper parking, traffic safety, sanitation, noise and operational impacts.
City Public Safety Director Susan Duenas says in a written report that there really is no need to change any city codes to tighten up.
There is one exception. She says it may be a good idea to increase the distance that food trucks need to maintain from driveways. The current rule — 20 feet — may be insufficient.
The food truck issue will also go before the Public Safety Commission next Wednesday at 5 p.m.
