Public safety panel to review Malibu food truck rules
After last month's crackdown, the city's public safety director says no code changes are needed — except maybe a wider buffer from driveways.

Are food trucks being operated safely in Malibu? That question goes before Malibu's public safety commission tonight at 5 at City Hall.
As we've reported before, the food trucks that park on Malibu streets appear to have cleaned up their act.
The city brought in sanitation and traffic enforcement from the county in a big crackdown on food trucks last month. Every single one of them was found to be operating in violation of health codes or safety rules in one form or another.
But these violations were mostly minor. Follow-up investigations have found that the truck operators are following the rules for proper parking, traffic safety, sanitation, noise, and operational impacts.
City Public Safety Director Susan Duenas says in a written report that there really is no need to change any city codes to tighten up.
There is one exception to that, though. She says it may be a good idea to increase the distance that food trucks need to maintain away from driveways. She says the current rule — 20 feet — may be insufficient.
The food truck issue will go before the public safety commission today at 5.
