Hurricane Marie may bring light rain to Malibu Play

Hurricane Marie is 900 miles due south of Los Angeles and is forecast to travel to the northwest and north over the next several days while weakening. Marie will remain well offshore of the California coast.

The National Weather Service calls this a highly unusual weather pattern for Southern California.

There is a bump of rain on the eastern side of the hurricane, and it is rotating toward eastern L.A. County. The mountains near Cajon Pass and Wrightwood may get one inch of rain Saturday.

But only a tenth to a half inch of rain is likely for western L.A. and Ventura counties. There is a 5 to 10 percent chance of excessive rainfall if a thunderstorm hits Sunday.

The Saturday morning forecast for Malibu: sunny, with a high near 79 at the beaches and 88 in the mountains. Clouding up Saturday night with a 30 percent chance of showers after 11 p.m. Between a tenth and a quarter inch possible early Sunday morning. Lows around 66.

Sunday will see a chance of showers, but occasional sun as well. Thunderstorms are possible after 11 a.m. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. Additional rainfall amounts between a quarter and a half inch are possible.
