Hurricane season quieting, but tides still running high Play

2,000 miles south of us, Hurricane Alley down in the eastern Pacific off the coast of Central America finally seems to be quieting down. No major hurricane activity is behind Marie, which has finally blown off to disintegrate west of Point Conception.

Forecasters predict three- to six-foot waves Wednesday along the Malibu coast. There is a smaller high tide Wednesday morning at 9:16, only 6.1 feet. The highest high tide will be at 8:46 p.m., 7.4 feet — the highest of the week by a couple of inches.

But remember, the National Weather Service says high tides are rolling in at about 6 to 12 inches above what the tide tables predict. The tide tables are based on the lunar cycles and they do not compensate for the elevated ocean level caused by El Niño.
