The parents of two little boys who were mowed down in a crosswalk say they want $439 million in damages from the two idiot drivers responsible for the crash.
Starting today, jurors will decide how much financial compensation, if any, should be paid to survivors.
8-year-old Jacob Iskander and 11-year-old Mark Iskander were struck and killed 5 years ago in a Westlake Village crosswalk.
One of the drivers, Rebecca Grossman, was convicted of second-degree murder. The other defendant is one-time Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Scott Erickson.
Evidence points to Erickson and Grossman going out for cocktails and then street racing with her on the night of the crash.
The Grossmans' lawyer, Brian Panish, argued that Erickson is a pathological liar and attempted to evade responsibility.
He said, and we quote: “Hiding in the bushes, admitted lying repeatedly to the police, and admitted switching vehicles and cold-plating. Who does that? That's a criminal act. That's a criminal act,” he told jurors.
Erickson's attorney countered that Erickson neither hit the children nor raced Grossman and was not impaired.
Grossman's attorney, Esther Holm, argued that Grossman was not drunk, not racing and that the crash was caused by a hazardous crosswalk design.
The speed limit is 45. The cars were going at least 80.
