Magnitude 2.5 quake shakes waters off Trancas
The Thursday night quake struck 8.9 miles below the ocean floor south of Broad Beach; a smaller quake hit near Encinal Canyon a day earlier.

A magnitude 2.5 earthquake hit deep beneath Trancas Beach Thursday night at 9:59 p.m.
Some dogs barked, and some people tell KBUU that they heard the quake.
Automated sensors at the Southern California Earthquake Data Center placed the epicenter 8.9 miles below the earth's surface, about due south of Broad Beach and due west of Point Dume.
There was also a magnitude 1.4 quake near Encinal Canyon at 4:01 Wednesday morning.
