Malibu impound lot at middle school returns to planning commission

For the fourth year, the city wants permission to use the Morningview Drive parking lot to hold summer tow-aways.

The issue of where to take tow-away cars returns to the Malibu Planning Commission next Monday.

For the fourth year, city staff is again asking the planning commission for permission to put impounded cars in the parking lot in front of Malibu middle school on Morningview Drive.

Between 300 and 430 cars were towed away last summer to that impound yard. None of them were kept overnight. Any unclaimed vehicles were towed to out-of-town storage areas.

This year's plan for the tow yard will include a pop-up canopy, tables and chairs.

Once again, all unclaimed vehicles will be transferred to an out-of-town location by 7:30 p.m., ensuring no vehicles are held on the lot overnight.

The temporary impound yard has no other place to go, city officials say.
