Malibu Pier emergency repairs done, full rehab starts
State Parks has completed emergency piling repairs and awarded a contract for a full pier rehabilitation expected to take 18 months.

An emergency meeting between city council member Haylynn Conrad and the State Parks director resulted in a report being given on Malibu's pier. It's been more than a year and a half since the end of the pier was closed to the public, after the state pier up in Monterey went plop into the ocean, prompting California State Parks to do an emergency inspection on all of its piers.
The above-water and underwater inspections confirmed the need for significant repairs in Malibu. The state hired a specialized engineering consultant who identified deteriorating and missing pilings requiring immediate repair or replacement. That work has been completed just recently — 100 percent of the emergency repairs are done.
Now the state has just issued a contract for a full-scale pier rehabilitation project, so construction will be going on for the next year and a half.
