Malibu Planning Commission set to formally kill DWP storage yard
Commissioners will take a final vote Monday night to deny Los Angeles DWP's request for a Corral Canyon Road equipment lay-down yard.

The proposal from the City of Los Angeles DWP to build a temporary storage yard and vehicle parking lot in central Malibu goes before the firing squad at the Malibu Planning Commission Monday night. Commissioners have already voted once to kill the equipment lay-down yard. Monday night's vote is just to make it formal.
The lay-down yard would have been scraped into the side of the hill along Corral Canyon Road, just above the RV camping lot in the center of Malibu. Monday night, the Commission has to formally adopt the decision to deny the City of L.A.'s request.
To say the City of L.A. plan went over like a lead balloon is an understatement. The plan was to scrape the hillside in central Malibu to use as a storage yard for the stuff needed to put the power lines underground in Pacific Palisades, 12 miles away.
DWP was sneaky — they started construction in Malibu without getting any permits or telling anyone about it. That violates all sorts of city planning and environmental rules.
It goes up for a final vote Monday night.
