Malibu water restored after two-day PCH pipe break Play

Malibu's water supplies were restored Friday evening. But L.A. County has not said how low the Malibu and Topanga water tanks got while the only water source was busted.

The 70-year-old transmission pipe from the state water system was repaired where it broke under PCH at Will Rogers Beach. Malibu and Topanga were left without incoming water for nearly two days.

The county waterworks district told KBUU that they were able to completely fill up the local storage tanks with the leaking pipe before they had to shut it off. That's why there was a huge river of running water on PCH near Temescal Canyon Road Wednesday.

Engineers had difficulty patching the 30-inch metal pipe. It runs from the MWD connection at the 405 freeway at Venice Boulevard, out to Topanga Beach, where it splits to Topanga Canyon and Malibu.

The pipe was back up Friday afternoon, and the tanks were refilling.
