Malibu's controversial radio tower repainted — in 'Warm Sand'
The L.A. County radio tower at Malibu College has a new color, and the top 10 feet will be chopped off.

On your next trip to downtown Malibu, please note that the SMC radio tower has been repainted.
The ugliest structure in Malibu — the L.A. County radio tower at Malibu College — has reportedly been repainted. This has been enormously controversial. The top 10 feet of it is going to be chopped off.
The city council appointed a special subcommittee to pick the new color. We will spare them the embarrassment of being named.
The new color, instead of aviation red and bright white? Beige.
But don't call it beige. The precise name is Warm Sand.
Enjoy your warm sand tower, Malibu. You're stuck with it.
If you've ever heard the old saying that a camel is a horse designed by a group of government officials, this is Malibu's camel — a 75-foot-high camel.

Hans, You've voiced your disdain for the radio tower since the day it was first installed, but wasn't it added in response to the catastrophic failures in emergency communications (fire, police, EMS, etc) during the Woolsey disaster? Sure, it's ugly, but if it's providing badly needed comm capabilities for emergency services then let's just cope with it, shall we? I'm going to go take a stroll on the "beige" beach now...
