Ventura County officials confirmed that a tourist from El Paso, Texas was swept into the ocean and drowned at Sycamore Cove as Hurricane Rachel's waves came to shore earlier this month. Her husband was injured trying to rescue her after a rogue wave knocked them both off the rocks.
The tragedy happened two weeks ago but was not widely reported at the time.
Kaylee Molina and her husband Roberto Clemente from El Paso were on vacation and were watching the sunrise Oct. 14 at the roadside beach not far from the giant sand dune in Point Mugu State Park. They were on the rocks when storm waves from Hurricane Rachel swept them into the ocean.
The husband was also dragged out but was able to swim to shore and call 911. He says he lost his wife from his grasp, and the horrifying incident is still fresh in his mind — so much so that he hasn't been able to sleep since.
