Two idiot tourists from San Francisco, driving rented high-end Ferraris, were arrested for racing on Pacific Coast Highway last week.
L.A. County sheriff's deputies were patrolling late at night at the Civic Center when they heard the high-end cars racing. Deputies chased the Ferraris, which took off at speeds above 100 miles per hour.
Sgt. Chris Soderlund:
"Those cars accelerated to about 100 miles an hour down PCH westbound. They were trying to catch up to those two cars. They actually got on the radio and talked to a unit that was on the west side of Malibu and they coordinated very well. And they were able to stop both of those cars at the same time down by Corral Canyon Road. Both of those cars were impounded for 30 days and both of those cars' drivers — both of them from San Francisco and both of them in their 20s — were arrested for racing and for reckless driving."
Over Memorial Day weekend, the sheriff's beach team wrote 95 traffic tickets, most of them for speeding. Vehicles were towed away — 42 of them — for being parked in a dangerous way. People drinking alcohol on the beach: 28 citations.
There were no serious crashes or other incidents, save for a three-year-old child who fell and cut their head, requiring a paramedic helicopter trip out to a hospital.
