The 85-year-old bridge linking the Santa Monica Pier to the bluff at Ocean Avenue will be demolished this week.
The city of Santa Monica is removing the narrow, seismically unsafe structure to replace it with a new one. Temporary stairways have been built to allow people to continue visiting the pier.
There will be barricades and additional traffic confusion at the Ocean Avenue exit from PCH next to the McClure Tunnel.
