Overnight rain adds up to an inch along coast, no damage

A gentle storm dropped up to a quarter inch in Malibu Canyon with no rock slides or runoff, and Santa Ana winds are forecast next.

By Hans Laetz

More rain fell overnight in Malibu — about a tenth of an inch at the western end of the city, a quarter inch in Malibu Canyon, and less than that at Civic Center and to the east. That brings the total rainfall in the last day and a half to about an inch along the coast, maybe an inch and a half up in the mountains.

There were no major problems, not even any rock slides. The rain was very gentle, not hard enough to cause any water to run down Trancas Creek. At the Malibu West flood control channel, there is no black runoff from the Bryson fire visible at all.

The storm is pretty much over. Sunny skies are expected most of the day, but maybe some scattered showers east of us. A gentle Santa Ana wind situation is going to develop Friday night and Saturday. There will be a four-millibar pressure difference — that's pretty small — between Bakersfield and LAX. That means overnight winds and Saturday morning winds of around 25 miles per hour.
