Today's weather: Clear skies, extreme heat ahead for a week Play

The reason it is clear this morning, says the weather service, is because of that tropical storm that moved up the Pacific out to sea yesterday.

Tropical Storm Elida sent mid-level and high-level clouds to Southern California Sunday and Monday. That disrupted the normal ocean-related winds that cause the marine layer to develop. And that's why there are no clouds or fog this morning.

For today and the next seven days, heat is going to be the major and only talking point in the weather cast. Hurricane Fausto is 1,200 miles south of Malibu, heading west.

A very warm upper high pressure system centered over Texas is pushing hot air as far west as Malibu, causing extreme heat in the Southern California basins and mountains for the next 7 days.
