Vandalism knocks out Verizon service, silences KBUU

Verizon is restoring Internet, phone and TV service in western Malibu after what the company calls vandalism — the second such outage this week.

By Hans Laetz

Verizon is restoring Internet, phone and TV service in western Malibu and elsewhere in L.A. County. The company says it was vandalism.

Earlier this week, Spectrum had a similar outage. This appears to be vandalism, or attempted copper thefts committed by people who are too stupid to be aware that fiber lines do not contain copper.

Nationwide, more than 15,000 similar acts of vandalism — or thefts committed by idiots — have been reported in the past year.

This vandalism took KBUU silent Sunday morning. We have a satellite connection at one of our three transmitter sites, but all three go silent if we lose fiber connections at the studio. KBUU service was restored after six hours.
