Lechuza Beach repopulation still about three and a half weeks out
The 31 evacuated houses remain red-tagged as private contractors race to repair collapsed East Sea Level Drive and utility lines.

An update Friday morning on the 31 evacuated houses up the beach at Lechuza Beach: no change in their status. The city has not changed the estimated repopulation date. It was originally five weeks; that is now about three and a half weeks from now.
Private contractors are making emergency repairs to East Sea Level Drive, the only way in or out for the 31 houses in the subdivision.
Water, gas and electricity have been disconnected, and that means the houses have to be red-tagged — no people in or out. The road is partly collapsed and the water, gas and electric lines have been compromised as well.
Without fire truck access and utilities, the city says it cannot allow the red tags to be removed, and allow residents to go home.
