Lightning closes beaches gain Tuesday, storm cancels Chili Cook-Off Sunday

Lightning closes beaches again Tuesday. The Boys and Girls Club fundraiser lost a day to weather before resuming under sunshine for Muddy Monday.

Lightning in the area Tuesday morning again prompted the lifeguards to close the beaches, and again the city jumped right in woth an order also closing the beaches.

A small thunderstorm was blowing northeast in to the center of the city at about 10 a.m.

Sunday's beach closure did not stop anybody from walking down to the sand to see the destruction. We saw hundreds of people during the beach closure on Westward Beach looking at the high tide damage Sunday.

The big effect of the storm, of course, was to cause the Malibu Chili Cook-Off to be canceled Sunday — a big loss for the Boys and Girls Club of Malibu, but an even bigger loss for the merchants and residents who brought in perishable food items to be sold at the big fundraiser.

Monday was Muddy Monday at the Malibu Chili Cook-Off under bright sunshine. The carnival resumed after the storm had passed.
