Santa Monica homeless sweep yields four arrests, six citations Play

Santa Monica police have swept the beach and Palisades Park for homeless people. One single day of concentrated enforcement resulted in a lot of debris being hauled off, four arrests, six citations and six referrals to shelter.

The Santa Monica police focused on oceanfront walks south of the pier and the beaches and Palisades Park north of the pier. Officers made 10 service-provider linkages and six referrals to shelters. Two people also volunteered to take advantage of Santa Monica's Project Homecoming — the city program that reconnects people with family or friends outside of Santa Monica who can provide them stable housing outside the city.

The sweep was a week ago, but police only announced it Monday.
