SCE Says Both Malibu Outages Were Linked; More Cuts Possible
Southern California Edison says a manhole flashover on Shearwater Lane caused Monday's second outage affecting 2,275 western Malibu accounts.

Southern California Edison says that yesterday's two power outages, which affected about 2,275 customer accounts in western Malibu, were related.
The first outage was at 2:48. When SCE crews restored power at about 4:47 p.m., a flashover caused smoke inside a manhole on Shearwater Lane, just above Westward Beach.
Fire trucks were on scene for 1 hour and 18 minutes while that emergency was addressed.
SCE crews bypassed the troublesome circuit while the underground wiring is being replaced. A company spokesman warned today that power in the area may have to be cut at some point, while the temporary bypass is removed.
The power cuts took out a battery backup unit at KBUU's studio, forcing a computer to fail. With the station operator in San Diego for the birth of his granddaughter, audio was not restored until midnight.
The baby looks great!
