SCE still can't explain back-to-back Malibu blackouts

Southern California Edison says two early-morning outages that hit the same west Malibu areas 20 hours apart were unrelated, but offers no cause.

Southern California Edison still cannot explain why the power cut out twice in Malibu this week.

Early morning blackouts hit Monday and Tuesday. The first at 6:17 a.m. Monday. The second at 1:33 a.m. Tuesday.

KBUU has been following up with the power company. As of yesterday, they said they still did not have a cause for Monday's outage — or Tuesday's. But they did say the two outages were not related, even though they hit the same areas 20 hours apart.

2,270 customer accounts lost power Monday, from Point Dume west into Ventura County.

The best explanation a Southern California Edison spokeswoman could come up with was that the "cause is under investigation." While crews were still coming up with an explanation, the power failed a second time early Tuesday.

Again, we do not know if the two outages were related. But Edison says they were not.
